How to enable 2FA for Online Portal by AppFolio
Install Authy
The best way to manage all your 2FA accounts is to use the Authy app. It enables you to have a single mobile app for all your 2FA accounts and you can sync them across multiple devices, even accessing them on the desktop. Install Authy on your device by searching for it in your device’s app store.
Important: If any sites prompt you to use Google Authenticator for two-factor authentication, note that you can always substitute the Authy 2FA app instead. Although they work in similar ways, Authy is more feature-rich and allows for multi-device syncing, cloud-backups, and easier account recovery should you change or lose your phone or device. Locate 2FA
When logged into your Online Portal by AppFolio account, scroll down the left-hand navigation bar and click on “Account Profile.”
Scroll down to the bottom of the page. Under Two Factor Authentication, click “Enable Two Factor Authentication” and click “Save.”
The window changes to display the Online Portal by AppFolio QR code and explains your next steps.
Enable 2FA
Before we go further, be aware that you may not come across the orange Online Portal logo that you associate with your account while setting up Authy 2FA. Because your Online Portal account is a service of AppFolio, your Authy authentication account will display the AppFolio logo in the setup. The next few steps will make this clear).
To capture the QR code, launch Authy on your device. Click ‘Add Account’ at the bottom of the screen.
You’ll be prompted to hold your phone up to your computer to ‘Scan QRCode’ and capture the QR code on the Online Portal by AppFolio site.
Once the QR code is captured, Authy will display your Online Portal by AppFolio account key.
(Alternatively, you can type in the alphanumeric code that appears under the QR code. This can be useful if the QR code is not displaying properly or if your device is having issues capturing the image.)
Once you have scanned the QR code, your Authy app will show the account for “Online Portal by AppFolio.”
- If a logo does not immediately display, you can choose the generic “key” icon or you can search for the appropriate logo for your account. As mentioned above, the orange Online Portal logo may not show, so we’ll apply the associated AppFolio logo.
- At the top of the screen, enter the term “AppFolio.”
- When the Appfolio logo is returned, click on it and then click “Continue.”
- On the next screen, you will be able to approve the logo and give the account a nickname, if you’d like.
When ready, click ‘Save’.
The Authy app will now generate a numeric ‘token’ associated with your Online Portal by AppFolio account.
Finish Setup
Return to the Online Portal byAppFolio webpage displaying the QR Code.
To the right, enter the Authy 2FA numeric token, and then click ‘Activate’.
Congratulations! 2FA is now activated for your Online Portal by AppFolio account.
The next time you login, you will be required to use two-factor authentication.
